Animals in the Gulf Coast
June 4th 2010 23:47
I am very worried about the animals that live in or around the Gulf of Mexico. The BP Oil Spill is going to kill thousands of animals and contaminate habitat and keep species from reproducing. According to this NOAA Fisheries Studies article from 2008, there are 28 species of protected Marine Mammals living in the Gulf of Mexico.
The shore line and inshore habitats will be repaired one day but what about the animals there now being affected by the oil spill? For more info and photos of animals in the BP oil spill you can go to this Huffington Post Article. Trust me that was and will be the only time I ever quote something from that site.I took a shower after visiting the site.
I have always been pro drilling but I am also pro wildlife. It is unacceptable that BP and other deep drilling companies didn’t have a plan to stop an oil spill from such deep water. I can only hope that people are out there trying to preserve habitat and save animals affected by the BP oil spill.

The Political Brief
The damage will be long term and unnecessary. Drilling on land wouldn't have caused such a disaster! I hope the only extinctions caused by the spill are a few careers that deserve to go.

I live in Spain, and few hours ago I watched on tv some images of those poor animals with their bodies completely covered by the oil. Oh God! I have no words!!
