Please look at my political novel idea

As some of you know I do quite a bit of writing for various websites. The pay is decent but I always wanted to write a novel. I have some ideas for a political thriller I would like to run by you. I need to know if it’s believable enough to sell.
The book is about a probable foreign born (we never find out) politician in a big city, Chicago, maybe. He rises from community agitator to President of the United States in a very short period of time.
As he grips his power every tighter it is revealed he does not have the country’s best interest at heart. He intentionally wrecks the economy of the United States and befriends former enemies and watches Israel get destroyed.
Nah I guess its far fetched nobody would believe this work of fiction could actually happen in the United States.
