Dey Shootin', Dey Shootin' -- Well, Kinda.

First, thank Mexico for my weeks-long absence. My toddler girl and my pregnant self both came down with flu -- and since the only flu going round right now here is the swine flu (or in PC circles concerned about offending pigs the novel H1N1 virus), I'd say that was the culprit. (*89% of flu being recorded by the CDC right now is swine flu.) So thank you, open borders and uncontrolled sanitation problems down South.

Any-hoo --

So I'm having fun today by thinking about North Korea's itsy-bitsy little saber rattling sounds.

I live on Oahu, in a little military community sandwiched between Pearl Harbor Naval Base and the less-known Hickam Air Force Base. A three minute drive away, you'll also find the main airport serving Hawaii, just adjacent to Hickam. Take out this relatively small area, and you have an Oahu crippled -- air traffic only via a couple small military airports elsewhere on the island, much boat traffic disrupted, and, well, two major military bases Just Gone.

Oh, and my house, too, of course.

All the reports coming out predict that the crazy NoKo's are going to be aiming for the main Hawaiian islands when they shoot their defective missiles between July 4 and 8. If they just shoot off one peashooter, well, I'm at the most likely Ground Zero. Like, my house would be a sensible targeting point to take out multiple prime targets.

Am I worried? Nah. Worst thing going to happen, my husband will be withdrawn back to Pearl and the bases closed down for emergency reaction. Oh, and we might be sent to the shelter on the base. I don't think any of that's going to happen.

See, the secret is that we have an incredible missile defense system. It's ranged out on boats and ships the NoKo's can't hit. We have a nifty high-tech defense system I can actually see from the road when I drive up to the mall (the defense system Obama refused to deploy last time the peashooters were fired, grr). I might get some bottled water when the day draws nigh, but hey, we're in Hawaii. I get bottled water all the time because the sun's just so dang hot.

We'll all walk over to the Pearl Harbor Fourth of July fireworks display -- which is A-1 excellent. Asian tourists will still stand too close in line behind us at the store in July (really, have they never heard of personal space?), and my husband and I will celebrate our anniversary on July 5. We'll hang out with my Marine son, stationed to Oahu for the whole of July.

And if the NoKo's actually do shoot their little toys toward us with clear intention to harm the United States, we'll enjoy the little extra fireworks created by the boomer subs that are no doubt parked off the coast of their country. Oh, and the wakeup call produced by such a lame and pathetic attack might be enough to get the overly-complacent American public off their duffs and on the phone to their so-called government "representatives."

No, I'm not worried at all.

*Just for fun, here's a map of the likely nuclear targets in Hawaii. The island with all the big target dots is Oahu. See that central-south part? Uh-huh, that's me down there. Hi, y'all, and aloha!

Welcome back kywriter! That flu bug is really nasty. I'm glad you're feeling better.

My parents lived in Hawaii, but I've never had the chance to see it for myself. I hope Kim Jong (mentally) Ill has lousy aim if he does fire at you. And I'd like to think we'd retaliate immediately and forcefully, but considering who's in charge, I rather doubt it.

Except that if the mighty Ill does hit anything, he's hitting the families of the dudes in charge of the button. Our military is well-disciplined, but not shooting back at that point would lead to open rebellion among the ranks.

Not pertinent, though -- he won't hit a darn thing. Excepting maybe a whale or two.

Ya know, kywrite, they say that given enough time and paint, even a chimp can create a Picasso. Now I'm not saying (mentally) Ill is as smart as a chimp.... But I sincerely hope his aim is as far off as his thought process.

I think mostly he is enjoying the attention he is getting, you know a little man, with a big ego. But there must come a time that he gets his butt spanked, and set straight. Just be safe, and keep you eye to the sky.

I think even if its clear it will fall short we should try to shoot it down as pratice.
