Palin quits as Governor
July 3rd 2009 22:24
Sarah Palin resigned as Governor of Alaska effective July 26th, in a shocking move. Already the debate has started; did Palin ruin her chances of running for president by walking away from the Governor’s job? She made it fairly clear she has higher goals in politics in her future.
I think she will be going around all the states to let people get to know her. I for one would vote for her right now for President or Vice President. My former favorite Republican has that whole sex scandal going on. I really like Jim DeMint from South Carolina as well as Palin. Those two would be my dream team to whip Obama/Biden in 2012.

I went to a Newt speech here a while back, back when we'd just moved to Hawaii; it's when he rolled out a bunch of the stuff he's talking about now - government efficiency, conservative spending, listening to what Americans really want, etc. -- very bipartisan and nonpartisan in many, many ways. When I shook his hand later, I asked him, "So, where do I go to find out more about your new political party?"
He looked taken aback, but then laughed and said, "You can find anything you're looking for at American Solutions or Newt.org."
I've thought ever since that he's angling for a way to start a new party; I don't see the Republicans letting him back in, and the R's have really messed themselves up now. He's latched onto the Tea Parties as a cause celebre, as well.
Now Sarah comes out and says she'll support candidates or non-candidates of either party or none who back the right issues in the right way. (It's in her speech today -- you can find it if you look.) That, to me, sounds like someone disgusted with the R's as well.
Newt, Sarah, Tea Parties, lackluster support for the last presidential candidate, and "loyal" R's attacking their party leadership for its stupidity -- I think we're going to hit a critical mass.
And -- isn't this going to be the talk of the Tea Parties tomorrow? I think she had brilliant timing -- she avoided the media on "infodump Friday" and went straight to the people, at a time she knows people will be gathering and organizing and talking. The presser was totally informal and nontraditional -- outside -- with babies and bottles -- it reminded me so much more of a 4th of July picnic with family than a political event! That was deliberate.
