Proposition 8 upheld!
May 26th 2009 18:01
I have mixed feelings about the California Supreme Court upholding the ban on gay marriage. Part of me says who cares what two adults do and if being married makes them happy, then more power to it. I feel it is simply none of my business and don’t like imposing my beliefs on others in most cases.
However we do live in a society that for now favors majority rule wins and the people of California voted for Proposition 8 into being. The California Supreme Court upheld the decision thus defining marriage as one man and one woman.
The part of me that supports Proposition 8 says good for California to stand up against Liberal attacks on our society and on God. Members of the far left want a decadent society with no moral compass for people to adhere to. These are the same people who would let Americans die rather than pour water on a terrorist. They dislike any Religious Symbol and are bitter in their hatred of the Christian Right. They also put more value on a criminal’s life than that of an unborn child.
I have written in the past in support of gay marriage but my support is waning. As the liberal left gets more and more bitter towards your average American, my disdain for anything they support grows. So I must say kudos to the California Supreme Court for upholding Proposition 8.

you should have stuck with your first feeling, because the rest of what you said came off as spite
why punish gay people because you dont like the opinions or actions of some "liberals", not all gay people are "liberal" or pro-choice, or anti-gun, or whatever positions you disagree with, they are all individuals with politics as diverse as any straight people
there are gay members of the NRA and the Republican Party, look at the Pink Pistols and the Log Cabin gays
the USA is a Constitutional Democracy which is a Liberal Democracy, which doesnt mean "majority rules" it means the presence of a Constitution is intended to protect the rights of all citizens by acting as a safeguard against the "tyranny of the majority"

But I do believe if the people of California said they didn't want to allow gay marriage in their state is should be respected, and the court system is set up to follow the rule of law not make it, or override the desires of the people.
The American Government was set up by the people for the people, and there are safe guards to protect people in the constitution.
But like you I am very upset with the actions of the gay community, and the treatment of the Christians, and strait people that have opposing opinions. Just look at the treatment Miss California received at the hands of Perez Hilton.
This was a horrible and sicken attack that went unchallenged, by the gay rational community if there is one.

Also, I think American Idol was impacted by this (although not as directly). Adam Lambert, an allegedly gay and definitely flamboyant contestant, was pumped up as the almost-certain winner by the judges. However, he lost out to the church-music-singing, mission-trip-going Kris Allen. Gay marriage wasn't directly involved, but many folks think the ongoing culture wars hurt Adam or helped Kris or both.
I'm no psychic, but I think this tug-of-war will only continue.
