Wiretaps, spying...are these things American?Senate says so!

In a dumb-ass move by the senate, Bush's surveillance plan was passed today. Its not as though things were perfect before this, but it seems as though every time we aren't watching they tighten the noose.
The plan gives immunity to phone campanies (including cell phones) who were working on "government orders" to wiretap suspected terrorists. The last time I looked, the government is not supposed to "order" anybody to do anything illegal. The phone companies should have stood up to the pressure before they did something completely illegal.
Now the government has not only given them immunity, but set up a system that makes all future surveillance of this type legal.
This isn't the first time the that our government has passed a major bill or plan that was unconstitutional. The biggest example was the pseudo war vote. Only the Congress has the right to declare war, yet they voted to give the president that power. Nowhere does any law give them the right to pass the buck to someone else, but they did anyway. I'm convinced it was so they didn't have to take responsibility for it themselves if it went bad. Hey! What do you know! Now that it did, they can say things like I didn't vote for the war- I voted to give the president the power and I didn't think he would abuse it....
The Republicans will say it is for our safety, and the Democrats will say they don't want to be seen as weak. What is it really? The parties coming together as one to ignore people's rights and the documents this country was founded on so they play some political games and pretend that its ok for the government to do whatever it feels like.

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Ben Franklin
These guys knew what they were talking about.

Why can't our Democrats be...well, you know, MORE democratic?!?! I am always disturbed to find out that THIS is the alternative to a party that has and is abusing its power over the people.
